Moonshine Rhythm Club breathes new life into old-school swing and jazz with original tunes and arrangements that make this vintage music sound like it was written this morning. The boys seek out timeless melodies and fresh ideas from deep cuts and standards alike and distill them into their signature sound. With each swing of Moonshine, you’ll taste notes of Nat “King” Cole’s classy and hip vocals and Chet Baker’s lyrical phrasing amidst the acoustic fire of Django’s gypsy jazz and the slow burn of Count Basie’s laid-back groove.
The boys met in college at Belmont University in Nashville, TN and formed the band in 2015 out of their mutual love and respect of swingin’ jazz. Since then, this young and hungry band of twenty-somethings has brought its energetic acoustic presence from its hometown scene of Nashville to festivals and dances around the country. They tour heavily, sharing their love of vintage jazz and blues to audiences both young and old.
The Scruffy City Syncopators draw their inspiration from the small combos of the 1930s and 1940s. They are rooted in 4-to-the-bar swing of Count Basie and Duke Ellington.and well versed in the gritty blues of Dinah Washington, and Sidney Bechet. Drawing inspiration from once popular, now eclectic, entertainers such as Slim & Slam, Louis Jordan and Fats Waller, the Syncopators deliver exciting renditions from the time just before Jazz and Rock and Roll went their separate ways. With a beat that’s hard to resist, they are sure to keep you out of your seat and on the dance floor all night!
Victor Celania, the organizer of the band, started dancing in 2003 and fell in love with the music of the hot jazz, swing, big band and jump blues eras. Upon moving to Austin in 2011, he decided he wanted to put a band together to play specifically for dancers. His journey has taken him and the band to Charleston, SC, Atlanta, GA, Tulsa, OK, Houston, TX, Dallas, TX and San Antonio, TX, in addition to Austin. The band continues to strive for a period-accurate but unique sound and to keep the dancers on their feet!
During the day, Victor is a professional clothier and custom clothing specialist with Capra and Cavelli, a locally owned Austin institution since 1995! Check out his work at www.instagram.com/celaniacustomclothing and like his Facebook page at www.facebook.com/celaniacustomclothing!
The Carousers are a lively local gypsy jazz, western swing and boogie blues band. Formed in October 2014, the band has become a staple in the Upstate SC music scene. They’ve played festivals, breweries and private events, and are Carousing as much as possible to “bring insanity to humanity!”
The group features Donna Kay on vocals, Monty Craig on guitar, Hans Wolff on violin, Robert Nance on upright bass, Kevin Korschgen on percussion, with special guests. Tunes include original compositions and special arrangements of vintage music. The Carousers not only honor the past, but they also carry the torch forward to light the gypsy fire in your heart.
That’s right! We’ve got a blues musician lined up for Friday’s late night dance! A native of Portland, Oregon, Dante will be in Greenville for Friday night to play some blues and soul tunes to keep the floor moving through the night!
